The Challenge
A Queensland retailer operating four locations across South East QLD was experiencing a recurring nightmare: internet outages that took their EFTPOS terminals offline, forced staff to turn away customers, and triggered hours of manual reconciliation afterward.
Each outage cost the business in lost sales, frustrated staff, and the ripple effects of playing catch-up. They had a single NBN connection at each site with no fallback — when it went down, everything stopped.

What We Did
After an initial consultation, we designed and deployed an SD-WAN solution across all four sites, incorporating:
- Dual internet connections at each location (NBN primary + 4G LTE failover)
- Instant failover configured so that if the primary link drops, traffic moves to the backup in under a second — EFTPOS sessions stay active
- Centralised management giving us visibility across all four sites from a single dashboard
- Traffic prioritisation ensuring EFTPOS and business-critical applications always get bandwidth, even if a staff member is streaming video in the back office
We also replaced the consumer-grade WiFi at two sites with managed Cambium access points, eliminating the dead spots that had been plaguing the stockroom team.
The Result
In the six months since deployment, the business has experienced zero unplanned outages. The primary NBN connection has gone down three times — on each occasion, failover was seamless and no sales were lost.
The business owner now has visibility into network health across all four sites from their phone, and our team proactively monitors for any issues.
